Serengeti runway issues

fast payday loans for every one

In the U.S., airports sometimes have trouble with birds or rabbits gathering on runways. They have the same issues in the Serengeti national park in Tanzania – only larger.

Runway traffic in the Serengeti, Tanzania

I shot this photograph shortly before our departing flight was to arrive at the Lobo air strip in the Loliondo area. The elephants are right where the incoming planes touch down. Shortly before planes arrive, park officials show up to make sure the runways are clear. They had to chase this group away.

Notice how the big elephants surround the little one – they are very protective.

  1. Great elephant pic! When I was in Tarangire in September, I witnessed some fully grown elephants throwing a baby elephant in the mud in a playful manner. It was great to watch!

  2. Theres nothing better than watching a herd of elephant with their young, they know how to look after their juniors and its funny to watch how they play with them – throwing them in the mud over and over.
