ice flows and mountains from 39,000 feet – the Okhotsk sea and Kamchatka peninsula

fast payday loans for every one

okhotsk-kamchatka-20120326-04

During a flight from San Francisco to Hong Kong I woke up from a nap and this is what I saw.  Then I thought to shoot a few pictures. The ice flows reminded me of weather satellite imagery. Afterwards I turned on the flight map to see where I was – over the Okhotsk sea …..

Cliche – Wien/Vienna Cafe. Lviv, Ukraine.

It's said that photographs of sunglass reflections are cliche. So be it. Wien/Vienna Cafe - Lviv, Ukraine.

Going through photographs of older guys playing chess and practicing political debate along Prospect Svobody in Lviv, Ukraine, I ran across this memory.  It’s said that photographs of sunglass reflections are cliche. So be it.

A few pictures from yesterday’s run across the Golden Gate Bridge

goldengate-bridge-120121-08

This has to be one of my favorite runs – start anywhere along the San Francisco water front and head across the Golden Gate bridge. I’ve done it so many times yet I still do not take it for granted. Yesterday I started near the St. Francis yacht club and shot a few pictures along …..

not too bad for January 20 – stinson beach, california

IMG_0187

I often think of moving somewhere less expensive but when there’s a string of saturated days like this mid-winter, it makes me think twice. All of the pictures are at Stinson Beach, just north of San Francisco in Marin County, were shot with my Canon S95 pocket camera and saturated, to match the day, in …..

Mahout and elephant camp panorama – near Chiang Mai, Thailand

Mahout and their elephant panoram - near Chiang Mai, Thailand.

When I was photographing the “elephant camp” we ran across near Chiang Mai, I knew the pictures wouldn’t do the place justice. I decided to shoot a bunch of portrait frames and stich them together into a panorama. Here’s the result of ten overlapping frames. It still doesn’t do the scene justice. In hundsight, I …..

Pictures of my parents

_MG_8667-Edit

Whenever I travel for a few weeks I have to find a place for my dogs to stay. A lot of the time they stay at my parent’s place in Mesa, Arizona – near Phoenix. The last time I went to Mesa I threw a couple of lights, stands, and backdrop in my car to …..

back to Film – my Konica Autoreflex TC

My new Konica Autoreflex TC with 50mm Hexanon lens

I purchased my first SLR camera, a Konica Autoreflex TC,  in 1981 or so.  It was a big purchase for me, somewhere around $200.  I really liked that camera. It disappeared a few years later in Manhatten –  it was pick pocketed out of a friends bag.  Recently, I’ve been scanning eBay looking to buy …..

Photographing Two Shih Tzu Dogs

twodogs-1007192

While fooling around around with a Sekonic L-358 light meter yesterday I decided to photograph my dogs with a clean white background, something I’ve been meaning to do for a while. As usual the dogs couldn’t have cared less about a camera and had their own agenda. Bribed with some chicken strips, they  sat around …..

Pistol River Wave Bash Windsurfing Photographs

Pistol River Oregon Wave Bash

After a ten year hiatus, the Pistol River windsurfing wave bash, just south of Gold Beach Oregon, was back on this past weekend. I drove up early Thursday morning to catch the action – well worth the drive.  Some of the best windsurfers around – about 80 competitors, from as far as Ireland, Italy, and …..

photo of the day – Thai army, Bangkok Thailand

A Thai army soldier, posted at the Victory Monument sky train station, pulled one on me - snapping my photo before I could get off a decent shot of him.

I was fiddling with my camera, turned around to photograph this fellow, and he whips out his Canon powershot and beats me to the punch. I just pushed my shutter button and hoped for the best. Unfortunately, he wasn’t interested in letting me shoot more images.

Bangkok Red Shirt Occupation/Demonstration

Closing on a brighter note - sunset at Klong Muang Beach near Krabi, Thailand

Riding around in a Bangkok taxi, I realized the red shirt demonstrations/protests have become a red shirt occupation. The red shirts control a key commercial area of Bangkok and have caused the army to occupy another area.  Barricades made of old used tires and bamboo poles with the ends sharpened have been placed in some …..

Red Shirt Protests – Bangkok, Thailand

bangkok-red-shirt-protest-1526

Although it doesn’t get much news back home, there are a number of protests/demonstrations going on in Thailand. A few of the larger demonstrations are taking place in Bangkok. Known as the “red shirts”, the UDD (National United Front of Democracy Against Dictatorship) feel  the current government wasn’t elected democratically and are demanding change. Combined …..

The Oakland/Alameda Ferry

The San Francisco skyline intersected by the bay bridge.

I’ve lived in Oakland for most of the past twenty years and have never taken the Oakland/Alameda ferry boat to San Francisco.  This past Saturday I decided to drive down to Jack London square, where the Oakland ferry dock is, and take the boat over to the city. It’s not a bad deal, especially for …..

Monument Valley

In March 2007 I drove from Phoenix, Arizona to Moab, Utah, stopping at Monument Valley along the way. I recently converted one of the Mounument Valley photographs to a tinted black and white image – this is what I came up with: Monument Valley, March 2007

Bangkok – more Snapshots from the Chao Phraya, Chian Town, and Ragnam Road

thai-man-violin-710631.jpg

Here’s another set of snap shots, most taken around the Chao Phraya river around Bangkok, Thailand. Some were taken at two places where I had dinner – one a more upscale place and the other totally local and basic. Both were equally good, on the river, just different scenes. Music at Victory Monument, Bangkok Thailand. …..
