During an early morning run near Klong Muang Beach in Krabi province, Thailand I went down a road I had never been on. The road dead ended at a small beach. There were a number of fishing boats anchored just offshore and a number of people selling fresh seafood along the beach. It was a great scene. Later that morning I returned with a friend. We struck up a conversation with a woman named Kwan selling fish on the beach and asked about joining her on the next fishing trip. After some chit chat and back and forth, Kwan told us to meet her around 4PM that afternoon.
By 4:30PM we were heading towards Ko Phi Phi, the island area Leonardo DiCaprio’s movie The Beach made famous. We stopped somewhere between Krabi and Phi Phi and spent the entire night on a wooden commercial squid fishing boat, returning just after sunrise.
